Where to apply
Existing BRP holders → set up a free account at gov.uk/evisa/set-up-ukvi-account. New visa applicants → complete biometrics at a UKVCAS or TLScontact appointment after the online visa application; status is delivered as an eVisa. Help is available from the UKVI funded support organisations (assistedDigital) for people who do not have a smartphone or need extra help.

Setting up a UKVI account and accessing your eVisa is free. There is no longer a £161 BRP replacement fee — the replacement service was closed on 31 October 2024. New visa applications include biometric enrolment in the visa fee and produce an eVisa, not a physical BRP.
Fees as of May 28, 2026. Confirm current amounts on the official source before paying.
What to bring
Documents and items you'll need at the appointment or with your application.
- Valid passport (this is the travel document linked to your eVisa)
- BRP card (if you still hold one — used to verify identity when creating the UKVI account)
- Decision letter from the Home Office confirming your immigration status
- Email address and UK mobile number for the UKVI account
- Smartphone for the UK Immigration: ID Check app (used to scan your passport biometric chip)
How long does it take?

- Same day
- If manual ID review needed

- Carrier digital checks since
- 25 Feb 2026
Setting up a UKVI account and accessing your eVisa: typically same-day online for straightforward cases; up to several weeks if identity verification needs manual review. From 25 February 2026, airlines and other carriers verify immigration status digitally at boarding — your passport linked to the eVisa is enough.
