Germany Residence Permit Photo Requirements (eAT) 2026
The electronic residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel, eAT) photo uses the same 35×45 mm biometric specification as the German passport. Since May 2025, German immigration offices (Ausländerbehörde) accept only digitally-transmitted photos — printed photos are no longer sufficient. Photos must be captured at certified studios that transmit them via secure QR code or on-site at the Ausländerbehörde.
Key details
- Digital-only photo submission required since May 2025 — no more printed photos accepted.
- Certified studios transmit photos via secure QR code to the immigration office.
- Some Ausländerbehörden capture the biometric photo on-site at the appointment.
