Thailand Passport Photo Requirements 2026

A Thai passport photo must be 35×45 mm on a plain white background. The head — from chin to crown — must be between 32 and 36 mm. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs applies this specification to Thai passport applications. The Thai visa uses a larger 40×60 mm format, and the driving licence uses the same 35×45 mm format as the passport. In practice, biometric photos are captured at the MFA office during passport renewal.

Country-specific notes

  • The Thai passport uses the standard 35×45 mm format.
  • The Thai visa uses a different, taller 40×60 mm format — do not confuse the two.
  • The MFA captures a biometric photo at the in-person renewal appointment.

Common rejection reasons

These are the most frequent reasons passport offices reject submitted photos.

  1. 1 Photo is 40×60 mm (visa format) instead of 35×45 mm.
  2. 2 Background is not pure white.
  3. 3 Smiling or showing teeth.
  4. 4 Glasses cause glare on the lenses.
  5. 5 Photo is older than six months.
