Thailand Passport Photo Requirements 2026
A Thai passport photo must be 35×45 mm on a plain white background. The head — from chin to crown — must be between 32 and 36 mm. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs applies this specification to Thai passport applications. The Thai visa uses a larger 40×60 mm format, and the driving licence uses the same 35×45 mm format as the passport. In practice, biometric photos are captured at the MFA office during passport renewal.
Documents covered
The same official specification applies to all of the following documents:
| Document | Size | |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand Passport | 35 × 45 mm (1.38 × 1.77 in) | |
| Thailand Visa | 40 × 60 mm (1.57 × 2.36 in) | |
| Thailand Driving License | 35 × 45 mm (1.38 × 1.77 in) |

Country-specific notes
- The Thai passport uses the standard 35×45 mm format.
- The Thai visa uses a different, taller 40×60 mm format — do not confuse the two.
- The MFA captures a biometric photo at the in-person renewal appointment.
Common rejection reasons
These are the most frequent reasons passport offices reject submitted photos.
- 1 Photo is 40×60 mm (visa format) instead of 35×45 mm.
- 2 Background is not pure white.
- 3 Smiling or showing teeth.
- 4 Glasses cause glare on the lenses.
- 5 Photo is older than six months.
