Nereye başvurulur

The Italian Embassy or Consulate competent for your place of legal residence — never the Italian consulate at your travel destination. In most countries, document collection and biometric capture are outsourced to VFS Global (visa.vfsglobal.com/.../ita), though the consulate retains decision-making authority. From 1 June 2026, the official application portal is e-applicationvisa.esteri.it; visa categories and consulate-specific checklists are published at vistoperitalia.esteri.it. Appointments are mandatory and must be booked online — walk-ins are not accepted. Apply no earlier than 6 months before travel (9 months for seafarers) and no later than 15 calendar days before departure.

National Type D visas typically take 30–90 days, with work and family-reunification categories often near the upper end because they depend on prior nulla osta issuance by the Sportello Unico Immigrazione. Sık sorulan sorular

italy visa başvurusuyla ilgili sık sorulan sorular.

How much does an Italian visa cost in 2026? +
The Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa costs €90 for adults, €45 for children aged 6–12, and is free for children under 6. The Italian national long-stay (Type D) visa costs €116 for most categories including work, family reunification, elective residence and the digital nomad visa. Study visas (Type D) are free of charge. VFS Global charges an additional service fee of roughly €30–€45 depending on the country. All fees are non-refundable even if the visa is refused.
How long does it take to get an Italian visa? +
Schengen Type C visas are processed within 15 calendar days as a rule, extendable to 30 days when more documents are needed and up to 45 days in exceptional cases. National Type D visas typically take 30–90 days, with work and family-reunification visas often nearer 90+ days because they depend on the prior nulla osta from the Sportello Unico Immigrazione. Apply no later than 15 calendar days before your planned travel.
Do I need a visa to visit Italy? +
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of the EU/EEA, Switzerland, the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea and around 60 other countries can enter Italy visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period — though from late 2026 they will need ETIAS authorisation. All other nationalities need a Schengen Type C visa for short stays. Anyone staying longer than 90 days, working, studying or joining family in Italy needs a national Type D visa, regardless of nationality.
What is the Italy digital nomad visa? +
Italy's digital nomad / remote-worker visa launched in April 2024 under DL 4/2022. It's a national Type D visa for highly-skilled non-EU nationals who work remotely for foreign clients or employers. Requirements: minimum annual income of about €28,000 (three times the Italian healthcare exemption threshold), at least 6 months of prior remote-work or freelance experience, private health insurance with €30,000 coverage, accommodation proof, and a clean criminal record. The visa is renewable annually and grants access to Italy's €100,000 income-cap "impatriate" tax regime in eligible regions.
What is the Decreto Flussi and how does it affect Italian work visas? +
The Decreto Flussi is the annual Italian government decree that sets quotas for non-EU work visas. The 2026–2028 plan authorises around 500,000 work visas total, with 164,850 slots for 2026 alone — split into 76,200 for non-seasonal employment, 88,000 for seasonal work and 650 for self-employment. Employers (or authorised representatives) must apply for a nulla osta on the Ministero dell'Interno portal during the "click day" application windows; once approved, the worker has 6 months to convert the nulla osta into a visa, otherwise the slot is automatically cancelled. Without a nulla osta, you cannot apply for a subordinate-work Type D visa.
What is the difference between a Schengen and national Italian visa? +
The Schengen visa (Type C) is for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period and lets you travel freely across all 27 Schengen states. It's used for tourism, business, family visits and medical care. The national visa (Type D) is for stays longer than 90 days and is tied to a specific purpose — work, study, family reunification, elective residence, religious mission or digital nomad. After arrival on a Type D visa you must apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno (residence permit) at the Questura within 8 working days.
Do I apply at VFS Global or the Italian consulate? +
In most countries, the Italian government has outsourced visa intake, document collection and biometric capture to VFS Global — you book your appointment, submit documents and pay both the visa fee and the VFS service fee at a VFS centre. The Italian consulate or embassy remains the deciding authority, and in some categories (digital nomad, elective residence, certain work types) interviews are held directly at the consulate. From 1 June 2026, all applications start on the central MAECI portal at e-applicationvisa.esteri.it.
Does the Italian visa cover all Schengen countries? +
Yes — a Schengen Type C visa issued by Italy lets you travel throughout all 27 Schengen states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland). You should apply through the consulate of the country that is your main destination — Italy if Italy is your primary destination, or the country where you spend the most days. A national Type D visa lets you transit through the Schengen Area but the long stay is only valid in Italy.
