South Korea Alien Registration Gereksinimler 2026

All foreign nationals planning to stay in South Korea for more than 90 days — students (D-2, D-4), workers (E-1 to E-7, E-9), job seekers (D-10), long-term residents (F-series), spouses of Koreans (F-6), and overseas Koreans (F-4). You must apply at the immigration office covering your registered address within 90 days of arrival in Korea — fines apply for late registration. The popular F-2-7 points-based residence path is open to current E-1–E-7 and D-5–D-9 holders who reach 80+ points across age, education, income, and Korean ability, typically after 3 years of residence (or sooner with 40M+ KRW annual income). On 17 December 2023 the card was officially renamed "Residence Card" (등록증) in English, but "ARC" remains in universal everyday and government use.

HiKorea (www.hikorea.go.kr) is the mandatory online portal for booking an appointment and, for many categories, filing the e-Application in advance. You then attend the immigration office covering your registered address (Seoul Immigration in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul Southern, Suwon, Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Jeju, etc.). Walk-ins are no longer accepted at any major office — appointment booking is required. The English helpline 1345 (operated by Korea Immigration Service) handles questions in 20+ languages.

Standard ARC issuance is ₩35,000 (about US$26, raised from ₩30,000 effective 1 January 2025) if you pick the card up in person, or ₩38,000 if you opt for postal delivery (₩3,000 surcharge) to your registered address. Extensions of stay run ₩60,000. A reissuance for a lost, damaged or stolen card is ₩35,000 (you must file a lost-property report at the immigration office or police station within 14 days). Reentry permits are ₩35,000 single / ₩50,000 multiple. Status changes (e.g. D-2 student → D-10 job seeker, D-10 → E-7, or any visa → F-2-7) cost ₩100,000–₩130,000 plus the standard ARC issuance fee. Payment is taken at the immigration-office payment counter in cash or by card; some change-of-status fees can be paid online through HiKorea.

What happens if I don't register for an ARC within 90 days? +

Late registration is treated as a violation of the Immigration Control Act. Fines start at around ₩100,000 and scale up the longer you delay — up to ₩1 million for severe cases. Repeated violations can affect future visa extensions and applications for F-series residence (including F-2-7). If you miss the deadline, register as soon as possible and bring a written explanation; immigration officers have discretion on first-time minor lapses.

Do students need an ARC? +

Yes — D-2 (university) and D-4 (Korean-language) student visas both require ARC registration within 90 days of arrival. You'll need a certificate of enrolment dated after your arrival (or a tuition-payment receipt if applying before the semester starts), passport, photo, proof of address (dormitory confirmation or off-campus lease), and the ₩35,000 fee. Most universities run group ARC appointments through their international office, which is much faster than booking solo.

What is the F-2-7 points-based residence visa? +

F-2-7 is a long-term residence visa for skilled foreigners who score 80+ points on a Ministry of Justice rubric covering age, education, Korean language ability (TOPIK or KIIP), annual income, and Korean ties. It's open to current E-1–E-7 and D-5–D-9 holders who have lived in Korea for 3+ years (or sooner with 40M+ KRW annual income or a government-agency recommendation). F-2-7 lets you change jobs freely, start a business, and bring family — a big upgrade over employer-tied work visas. Initial period of stay is 1 to 5 years depending on your score.

Do I need a reentry permit before traveling? +

Most ARC holders staying away for less than 1 year do NOT need a reentry permit since 2010 — your ARC is enough. You only need a reentry permit if you plan to be out of Korea for more than 1 year (most categories) or 2 years (F-5 permanent residents). Single reentry is ₩35,000, multiple is ₩50,000, applied via HiKorea or at the airport. Forgetting can invalidate your visa and ARC, so check before long trips.

What if I lose my ARC? +

Report the loss within 14 days to the immigration office or local police station, then book a HiKorea appointment for reissuance. Bring your passport, a new 30×40 mm photo, ₩35,000, and the lost-property report. Reissued card takes another 2–4 weeks; you'll get a paper certificate in the meantime. Repeated loss may trigger an administrative warning.

Can I work in Korea with an ARC? +

The ARC itself doesn't grant work rights — those come from your visa category. E-series visas (E-1 professor through E-9 non-professional) explicitly permit work in the listed field. D-10 job seekers can't work full-time but can do part-time internships related to job search. D-2 students can work part-time only with a separate work permit from immigration (up to 25 hours/week during semester). F-series residence visas (F-2, F-4, F-5, F-6) all allow unrestricted work in Korea.
